Possible new home?

We found a place we want to live.

They're called the Lincoln Lofts, and they're located in Downtown Alton about two blocks from The Telegraph (pretty much the intersection of 3rd Street and State Street between The Big Muddy Pub and Spirits).

A little about the place. Our loft would be on the lower end of the price scale in the building, which runs from $600 (studio) a month to $1200 a month. Ours is bigger than the studio for $800 a month, which includes water, sewer, trash, private parking, card reader access, security lights, CABLE TV and WI-FI INTERNET. Yes, all paid for. Not to mention it includes a washer and dryer (the actual appliances not just the hookups). So really, it's not much more expensive than the other places we'd looked at. Difference is, this place is a little smaller and with not as much storage, but in a better location, with better neighbors and its all new and completely modern. Well, sort of.

The building itself is historic, although it's been newly renovated. The rooms are pretty small, but they're like that in the higher price lofts too (I know, I saw)... because the rooms are the same size as they were whenever it was a hotel back in the day. Afterward, the bottom level was a restaurant called the Seafood Escape. I don't remember it really, so I don't know when it was around.

What I DO know, is that this building was on the Haunted Alton tour that Diane and I went on in 2006. It is supposedly haunted by a little girl and a Civil War soldier (which could make for interesting living I guess). But they're supposedly harmless. Note, there is an orb in the photo below of the living room. But only that one. Unlike one I took this year at Mineral Springs... sheesh. But that's another story...

Anyway, the owner of the building is set to contact me tomorrow to set up a time when David and I can sign the lease. I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but CHECK OUT THIS PLACE!! I took a few photos. I'll post more once we get moved in and settled, but that won't be until April.

Check out this bathroom sink for God's sake. The bathroom is actually pretty large, as is the rain-head shower.

The kitchen features all new stainless steel appliances... note, the blue protective plastic hasn't even been taken off the stove or dishwasher.

The faux fireplace (its no longer functional but looks pretty... and glass shelving along the living room wall. If you look closely, the orb is in the top righthand corner. I don't see it this small really... you might have to see the original size.

The view from one of our two windows. Check it out. We can see 3rd Street. Kind of looks like a city doesn't it? Wait till those block parties start up again.

And if we want a beer or to see a band play, all we have to do is go downstairs. I think once we move in we're going to have a few people over for a housewarming get together. Stay tuned!

---

P.S. The photos are dusty because the building is STILL undergoing renovation. They put off work in the lofts liek mine because 5 people moved in over the weekend and they had to prioritize and finish those first. Ours will be done and clean and the floor will be all shiny and new looking by April. Yay! Alright time for bed... I remembered I wanted to post these pics and I got all excited...

Looks like a sweet place... and I'm pretty sure the "orb" is actually lens flare caused by the reflection of the ceiling light in the mirror on the left bouncing around the inside of your camera lens.

Or, if it makes you feel better, it could be a ghost.
